For many years individual coaching has been critical and has served the need of individual development. It left lots to be desired in serving the needs of the system as a whole. Many people who got coached, experienced change and growth for themselves. However, the environment or system around them did not change or grow, and therefore did not align with the individuals changed needs and perspectives.
The focus on team development has existed for many years. A survey by Hay (now known as Korn Ferry) of 350 HR directors, found that more than one-third of respondents were now complimenting individual coaching and 360?degree feedback with dedicated team coaching (Personnel Today, 2003). Hence the need to be a certified / credentialed Team Coach.
